Regional Participation and Analysis
Over the last decade, one of CINEP’s strategic tasks has been to carry out work that contributes to development and peace programs that communities, social organizations, churches, and different public and private enterprises, have been developing in several regions in Colombia.
The central purpose of this line of action is to provide service to communities and their regional processes through CINEP’s experience in research and education in the following aspects: re-construction of social fabric, organizational strengthening of communities, impact on the formulation of social public policy, promotion of regional development and peace programs, as well as promotion and defense of fundamental civil rights and responsibilities.
In order to do this, CINEP developed a program specifically concerned with regional analysis and participation, which presently includes the following projects:
- Magdalena Medio
- Lower Atrato (Department of Chocó)
- Foothills to the plains (Department of Meta)
- Bogotá D.C. and Department of Cundinamarca
- South (Departments of Putumayo, Nariño and Caquetá)
In order to guide our regional work, CINEP has the following criteria:
- Creating long-term regional commitments, and coordinating short- and medium-term programs and projects, in order to contribute to the construction of regional development and peace alternatives in the midst of the present social and armed conflict in Colombia
- Constructing inclusive alternatives, agreed upon by the actors in the local and regional development, which implies strengthening and appropriating the regional processes, organizations and institutions
- Preparing and consolidating regional settings in order to re-construct the social fabric heading into a post-conflict period
- Identifying regional needs, as well as analyzing the relevance and sustainability of CINEP’s work in the different regions. In this sense, strategic alliances must be created with local, regional, national and international actors in order to strengthen the processes undertaken in the regions
- Creating and participating in political debate, and in advocacy work, as a part of regional, national and international networks dedicated to development and peace
- Carrying out the applicable research for regional processes by maintaining a national and global perspective that lets regional analysis be updated in relation to the national context, as well as for research to be carried out on the theoretical evolution of concepts, which helps in understanding the regional social construction
- Formulating and carrying out fund-raising projects in order to facilitate the financial sustainability of the regional processes
